VO2 max put to the test of time

 

I received Véronique Billat’s latest book,  ”
VO2 Max Against Time,”
and I’m sharing my thoughts on it. It aims to improve
the famous VO2 max, a true marker of
performance among athletes, by offering a new VO2 max put  vision for training.

The author demonstrates how

Around variations in speed or power, it is
possible to push back the support time atVO2max but also to exceed its
reference value during the effort.
V.Billat assumes that, during a triangular
or rectangular test to determine VO2max, there c level executive list are multiple factors that cause stopping
: maximum breathlessness, muscle pain, loss of strength.
Thus, when VO2 consumption reaches its VO2 max put  maximum, it ends up falling
drastically if the power is still maintained
. The athlete practically only uses the anaerobic system to
support the effort and the test ends very quickly, in general! The
maximum VO2max value reached before its fall is the one used as
a reference with its correspondence in VMA or watts depending on the test.

Its first postulate lies in the fact that by modulating the power

When VO2max is reached, it is possible what are they afraid of and what is the truth? to push back the time limit to VO2max. Thus by a game of
deceleration to recover, then re-acceleration, it is possible to
stay at VO2max 3 to 8 times longer than during a rectangular test
where the athlete would have stayed on average 5 min at PMA. In this study , we can see
the results on 10 cyclists having a VO2max between 45 and 70 ml/be numbers kg/min. The graph below, from the study,
shows a cyclist in the test having a PMA
of 400 watts or 58 ml/min/kg reached on a
4min cp (black curve).
